I had my 15 minutes of fame on Tuesday (April 19th) It was actually 1 min 28 seconds and occured mid morning on the last hour of the Today show- with Kathie Lee and Hoda. I'm sure you've all seen the show, it's fun and news-ish with all kinds of different segments. Both of my offices have tv's in each operatory and I try to keep the entertainment steered away from soap operas and Jerry springer, and the most dreaded "deadliest catch" (I swear it's the same exact show over and over- this boat caught crabs- they are happy, this boat did not catch crabs, they are not happy. Something went wrong on this boat - cue the dramatic narrator voice) anyway that's another post.
In general, I don't care what people want to watch, because I mostly have my head in their mouth anyway (picture lion tamer) BUT I do have a pechant for the Today show, and especially Kathie Lee and Hoda. I think they are fun, and I am always tempted to stash the remote out of the patients reach just in case they want to change the channel while it's on. They have a segment once a week called fan of the week, and a few weeks ago, I got on the website and wrote a paragraph professing my devotion, along with some picture of me being silly at the office and watching the show.
Then yesterday... I'm cleaning a gals teeth and chatting with her, and the show is on (of course) and I hear my name, and I'm looking up at my silly pictures on national tv! So weird, so cool! And I get to take a fabulous trip, (to Maui!) and I hope I might meet these ladies, cause they metioned they should invite me when they are doing the show in Seattle this fall, and to the production of Saving Amy- which is going to tour and be at the 5th ave I hear. Soooooo that was the most exciting thing that happened to me yesterday (or this week, month, year.... okay maybe ever!)
So enter contests! Real live people you might know actually win sometimes! I think the clip is linked below.

My funny Valentine
Here we are on Valentine's Day and it is James's first day on second shift, I'll be snoozing away when he gets home and leaving before he wakes up! Oh well. He did suprise me with cookies from my favorite paradise bakery- which he flew to Phoenix to get (okay, he was there anyway on the long and winding airport hop to join us in California) I don't know that James would appreciate (or notice) a mushy tribute to him and our love (sigh) but I love that man, and am so thankful to be in a happy marriage! This picture made me laugh and reminded me of this awesome deal we started a few months ago. I HATE doing the dishes. Touching soggy food on dishes really grosses me out (ironic given my profession, I know) BUT... I also really enjoy an empty sparkling sink, so James loads and I unload the dishwasher and it's become a bit competitive who is waiting for who. It's a great comprimise, and I'm so getting the better end of that deal!

The Power of Low expectations!
So I FINALLY have this new years resolution thing figured out. For as long as I've been aware of the resolution thing, I have botched it entirely. Either- I have a big insurmoutable goal (the body of Kate Bosworth in the movie Blue Crush, read the standard works strait through, become fluent in Spanish, learn to play the guitar AND the piano, cure cancer ect ect!) This year I was tempted to make my Resolution to have a clean, organized house. That's the goal, but the resolution my friends is this... make the bed everyday. and I've been doing that, and it makes me feel good! So I'm preaching small accomplishments and low expectations folks as the key to happieness!

Our house, a work in progress...
I thought I'd post a lot about our house and what we are working on, but I havn't until now. I'm making myself do it now and relizing that I haven't done it before, because I feel like I'm never done. The front room and the kitchen are reasonably clean at the moment so I snapped a couple pictures. I love decorating, and re-decorating, and a year from now these may serve as "before" pictures, rather than "after" pictures, but I'm pretty comfortable with these rooms for now, and I've got to many other rooms to tackle!
I'm proud to say that my home doesn't look like a magazine page- it looks like us! (James might say it looks like me more than him.) It is a hodge podge of hand me down antiques, garage sale and craigslist free or cheap, and clearanced out stuff.
I don't know how to describe the style, a little French? Shabby sheek? Northwest coastal? A little of all those things I hope. I do love mixing formal and informal, and pull inspiration from Ballard designs, restoration hardware, pottery barn, and of course friends and family who have fabulous decor themselves. You all seem to have several somethings I would want willed to me!
